pm Mozilla's Engineering Project Manager, Christian Legnitto, has detailed release schedule for Firefox 5, 6 and 7. If all goes to plan, makes Firefox 6.0 a1 area next week, April 12, and Firefox 7.0 a1 in mid-May, the final build of Firefox 5 should be released on June 21, exactly three months after the release of Firefox 4.Together with Cadence faster 6 weeks release has Firefoxs new Chrome-like release channels also forenames and anticipated update frequencies. The most notable change is the introduction of a new alpha channel--equivalent to Chrome Canary--which will be called "aurora" and will update nightly. Aurora will be there fixes and features are being tested, and either approved for the Beta, or backed up to Central. Aurora will also have a new icon.
Nightly (mozilla-central) Canal will remain unchanged in name and often, but it will have a new "nightly icon." Beta (mozilla-beta) channel remains-is, with new builds rolling out every week. Release (mozilla-release) Canal also remains-is with security and stability updates every 6-12 weeks.
It should be noted that the names (including "aurora") is not necessarily final, but it is unlikely that they will change. We also await the arrival of the new "channel switching" technology, which is scheduled to arrive in the next few days--in time for the release of Firefox 6 aurora!
